A collection of our past and most recent works that you won’t find in our main collection. These beautiful works of art are typically one off builds and highly customized by our clients for the spaces they are destined to live in.
This very large two person office desk in Black Walnut took many months in planning before making any cuts. It now resides in Corvallis, Oregon in its forever space. We have here photos of the desk installed and a few in the shop pre install. This piece is stand alone and not a built-in. Although it was made to nestle in very tightly from wall to wall with just a little less than a quarter inch room on either side. You can imagine the stress of driving to Corvallis hoping everything fit just right. Trust the process is a phrase that comes to mind often with builds like these. What more can you do than measure numerous times, make templates, etc. and then execute. We started with the most difficult aspect of the build first, the solid walnut curved front panels. This forced us into new territory as it’s not a feature we’d ever been asked to do prior. Consisted of making templates, cutting strips of wood at slight angles, careful glue ups, router work, hand planes and many hours of sanding. They came out beautiful and better than anticipated. The next difficult task was creating the rest of the base for the top. Our clients wanted back paneling following the desk all the way around. This is the only place we used black walnut plywood. Cut the four panels to size, trimmed the pieces out with black walnut hardwood to conceal edges, added feet, etc.. Once we had the base complete, all of aspects were well within our wheelhouse. The top consists of three separate pieces. The two sides that match the curved front panels 5’ in length and the center 8’ in length. The width of the top is 24” all the way around. So in total the desk spans twelve feet from wall to wall and the wings come out 5 feet. To line the tops up flush we used tenons so the tops slide into each other. Underneath we used tie bolts to pull the top piece together and keep them together. The drawer bank cabinetry came out really nice as well. All custom drawer boxes and faces built in shop. We used soft close under-mount slides and drawer pulls picked out by our clients.
We couldn’t be happier with the way this piece turned out and most importantly our clients felt the same! We are actively looking for opportunities to build large pieces of furniture like this or conference sized tables and dining tables for commercial and residential spaces.
Can you guess who commissioned this Black Walnut slab podium? The University of Oregon had us build a podium for their commencement speeches and various others in 2025. They wanted a slab for the front aspect to give a nod to the beautiful woods Oregon has to offer. This slab came from a local dealer here in Eugene, OR named Oregon Wood Slabyrinth. This particular cut of wood came from their family farm hundreds of years old downed by storm many years ago. The classic yellow “O” symbol stands out beautifully against the Oregon Black Walnut slab. We haven’t seen any other podiums with a live edge face so truly one of a kind. We are very open to building pieces similar to this for other college institutions or businesses of any kind looking for a truly unique podium statement piece.
Here we have a wall mounted folding shelf/laundry station made in Cherry. A very practical piece that can be either folded down when not in use or when engaged acts as a great shelf for folding laundry or setting any laundry needs on top of. The Cherry matched many other pieces and trim within this house so it was an inevitable wood to use for this build. The hardware from Rockler is mounted to wall studs for a strong and secure set up.
Redwood Planter box featured above. Deceptively simple looking planter box with mortises and through tenons held by dowels keeping the structure together. Notching and chiseling out square mortises took more time than we would like to admit but another skill earned along our woodworking journey.
Our client had picked out an adjustable height table base system by the company, Autonomous. We just had to build the perfect top for it that fit the confines of a smaller office space nestled between existing furniture pieces. After some discussion we went with Cherry hardwood and added access ports for comp cables, which all came together beautifully.
Another highly customized piece which acts as an entertainment center/bookshelf. This was all built in solid Cherry hardwood with custom “X” shaped book ends to prevent anything falling off side to side. The custom cabinet door with a smoked glass front was requested for certain electronics to be housed and with the desire to be hidden from sight. The shelving is removable with hidden specialty bolts keeping them in place. In the back we have a large “X” to keep everything square and prevent any racking. A lovely build that we fully enjoyed the design process and execution building it out. The only aspect we didn’t have so much fun with was getting this up to a 3rd story apartment building. But would we do it all over again? Yes!
Can you guess what we made here in this photo? You got it right! The oversized mantle above the fireplace. We used poplar for this piece and you may not guess it but it’s hollow on the inside. The fireplace brick already jutted out from the wall so we essentially made a mantle slip on with sides giving it the illusion of being one large single piece of wood. Then, easily mounted to the brick to secure the piece. Other than that, we really like those round coffee/side tables and may have to come up with our own version in the future.
Customized outdoor Adirondack set for a local client here in Eugene, Oregon. A his and hers, if you will with back reminiscent of sea shells. Per request the larger chair on the left has rockers while the other stands a bit higher than your classic Adirondack style. To go along with the chairs we have a foot rest and side table. This is one of our favorite woods to work with when building unique outdoor furniture, Eastern Red Cedar. Commonly used for closet and chest liners because of its natural properties that repel bugs. Also makes for beautiful furniture inside and out. Like other cedars this wood will eventually grey if left outside to the elements overtime but structurally holds up significantly well. This a beautiful wood that can be used for indoor furniture making as well. If it’s an outside piece we recommend using a marine varnish that will withstands the elements for Many years to come.
